Andrew Caryl - Silent Romance

So, today we have artist from Denton, Texas. Darren Vader also know Andrew Caryl is a musician, songwriter and producer. Andrew Caryl's latest releases have been seen in TikTok and Instagram videos by more than 10 million viewers. He is inspired by the sometimes bold, sometimes chill nature of the indie/trap/Pop combo. okafuwa's (aka Tyler Sjostrom) music has been streamed more than 60 million times on Spotify. 'Silent Romance' is one of several collaborations that fuse indie, pop and trap styles with melancholy stories of redemption and self-reflection.

Caryl often works in collaboration with other artists and producers and has had label releases in collaboration with artists from all over the world including American Idol finalist Robbie Rosen, Venezuelan Future House prodigy Sam Ourt, Hungarian violinist and producer Zita, French vocalist Enlia and L.A. based Ana Roze to name a few. His label affiliations include High Five Records, Loudkult, 7Clouds, ATLAST/Miami Beats, Magic Records, and D.C. Vinyl.

Recently, we had a submission on Groovers by Andrew Caryl. The song name is “ Silent Romance”. The track trap/Hip-hop vibes with melodies, featuring the songwriting of Caryl and Steven Thompson alongside the voice of okafuwa,’Silent Romance’ represents the culmination of a yearlong project by Caryl to develop a sound that blends the rhythmic elements of trap/hip-hop with the hooky melodies and vocal delivery of modern indie pop music.

We had a chance to have an interview with him, so here it all goes!

Our first question was,

— How did came up with this album, and what was the thought process for it?

He replied- “It's 2 fold really. Firstly, I wanted to create an series of singles that took some of the stylings of trap rhythm and combined them with pop melodies and indie pop style vocals. After meeting Tyler Sjostrom (okafuwa) and working with him as the vocalist on a couple of tracks, I realized his voice would be perfect for this project. Secondly, as okafuwa and I worked through some new songs, I also re-connected with an old band mate, Steven Thompson, who had written some songs more than 20 years ago - and the lyrics of those songs turned out to be a great fit for our project. hence, 3 or 4 of the tracks in this project - including 'Silent Romance' and another we have coming out on July 29th, 'Farewell Love' were originally written by Steve and we sort of re-wrote and tweaked them to fit the project. We all really love the results”

— What first got you into music?

He replied- “I studied music theory and composition at university. Prior to that I was a trumpet player. My grandfather was a huge fan of big band Jazz so that was my first real push into music ”

And yes, it certainly reflects the prodigious work of yours!

Moving to next,

— Which artist inspires you the most and why?

He replied- “Wow, that's hard to go back that far. I have been into music since as far back as I can remember. I suppose the most influential music to me is probably 80's new wave and bands of that era like Joy Division, Electronic, etc. but I also love Trent Reznor and Jack White and sooo much other music. Strangely, I am also quite influenced by classic country music. But it was probably Elvis Presley that first got me into music :) The original King of Pop! ”

So our last question was,

— Any final words for our reader and people listening to your music?

He replied- “I just love this journey so much and am so grateful to our fans who listen and give new ideas a chance. It's very challenging for independent artists to get attention these days so I am just so truly thankful for every person that gives the music a listen. Hopefully it connects with them and their own life stories and moves them in some way. That's the real goal - to provide an emotional experience that moves people”
