We had a chance to have an interview with her, so here it all goes!
Our first question was,
Can you tell us about your journey into music? What inspired you to pursue a career in music?
He replied- “I started making music a while ago when I was in college and had a hip hop group called Beer N Black. It was an awesome experience, but life came, and my partner had to focus on making money to build his new family. After that I never really thought about doing a solo career, but over the pandemic I had time to reflect and realized I really missed having music in my life. My 40th birthday was coming up in 4 months and I had a lot of people travelling all over to come visit me in Corpus Christi to celebrate, so I thought it would be a great idea to make them an Album as a gift. I worked hard days and nights to get the album finished, and the process reignited the musical fire back in my soul and I realized music is something I wanted to do forever, and it's all about giving a gift to others.”
Yes, such an amazing album, and we just loved it!
So, the next question was,
How would you describe your musical style or genre? Are there any specific artists or influences that have shaped your sound?
He replied- “I think my style pays homage to the boombap origins of hip hop while staying fresh and relevant. I am all about the lyrics and the message, but I also want people to be able to enjoy the music without having to dive too deep into the intricacies of the lyrics all the time. I call my style inspirational hip hop, and it's meant to inspire people to their own version of greatness. My musical style has been shaped by the music I grew up listening to. I am a big fan of Eminem, Jay-Z, Big Pun, and Lil Wayne. “
And it certainly reflects in style of music.
Going to next question,
Your latest album/single has been gaining a lot of attention. What was the inspiration behind this project?
He replied- “The inspiration for creating the project was to give a gift to my friends for coming to visit me on my 40th birthday. You can see a video recap here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLStkkb6X-I - To me, music is a gift that the artist gives to the listener that connects them through space and time. I understood after making it that I should share that gift with more people than just my immediate inner circle. “
Soooo our Next question was,
Many fans connect deeply with your lyrics. Could you share your songwriting process and where you draw inspiration from?
He replied- “My art is just a diary entry of my life put to music. I try to imbue my music with the lessons I have learned in life and hope that those lessons help empower others to have the mindset required for success. I am an entrepreneur, and that path has taught me a lot of hard-fought lessons that I know can help others grow to their own version of greatness. I think success is a very personal thing and looks differently for everyone. “
It will surely inspire many more upcoming artist.
Next question was,
The music industry has evolved significantly with digital platforms and streaming services. How do you navigate these changes as an independent artist?
He replied- “I am a digital marketer by trade, and I think the digital revolution is the best thing that can ever happen to artists if they are willing to put the work in. Your crowd has been found for you, and they are just a DM away. If you're willing to work for it, you can be successful. Being an artist is owning your own business. Your art is your product. “
Going to our last question,
Looking ahead, what are your goals and aspirations for the future of your music career?
He replied- “My goals is to create a fan base that I can inspire to their own version of greatness. I have also started a non-profit called Raps and Apps that is dedicated to helping other artist thrive and make music their full-time career. My music is my business card. This is who I am and this is what I do, and I want others to know that they can do it too. “
