KARL – Inside Me (feat. Stolt)

We have another great artist from Rennes, France. Charles Perrono also known as KARLK, is a 32 year old composer and producer of electronic. He began his musical career at seven when his parents gave him his first drums. Later, it is self-taught that he will learn to play several instruments, including guitar and piano.

Falling in love with electronic music as a teenager, KARLK began his first DJ set in a rave party in the 2000s. After experimenting with techno music on vinyl turntables, KARLK began composing songs mixing world music and electronic music. In December 2015, the multinational Google contacted him to synchronize his musical work “What I Want” (composed in collaboration with Ofenbach) on its advertising campaign “La nuit vous appartient”. This track was played by many DJs and even listened to in space by the famous astronaut Thomas Pesquet! Thanks to social networks, KARLK reaches millions of listening in a few years, which allowed him to collaborate with great artists and to perform in important festivals in Europe. KARL released his first album “Crossroads” in May 2017 with hit songs like “Jeff” and “Daydreamer”, as well as his first orchestral track “Amazonia”.

KARL's music is heard all over the world and now exceeds 60 million plays. His latest singles “Persian” and “Niespra, from more spiritual and ethnic inspiration, mark a turning point in his influences who evolve constantly to the rhythm of his life and his desires.

Recently, we had a submission on Groovers by KARL. The song name is “Inside Me“ featuring Stolt. Inside Me is a reflection on the deep nature of man: “Made to become a soldier, made to become a man, made to become another, But the devil sings inside me”. The rhythm and the treatment of the arrangements are faithful to his touch of the Hit's maker, but this time, the interpretation of STOLT, a new raw voice of French electro-pop, which gives a certain gravity to the subject. And a real blow to the head. The track is available on all streaming platforms.

We had a chance to have an interview with him, so here it all goes!

Our first question was,

— How did came up with this album, and what was the thought process for it?

He replied- “It had been several months since I had composed something and a friend sent me a guitar sample, telling me that I should like it.

And indeed, I loved the sample, I found it crazy! It sounds a bit like Robin Schulz, I admit it, but I loved it too much! So I started my song from this sample.

Afterwards, it's the story of an encounter with Stolt. I found him randomly on the internet and contacted him. We then saw each other in the studio in Paris to record. It was a really good time. I'm very happy with the vocal work he did”

Loved the song! Relaxing beats and a classic Stolt vocals!

So, the next question was,

— What first got you into music?

He replied- “At first, it was my parents who enrolled me in a music school when I was 7 years old. I started out playing drums. I didn't like music school at all. Learn all that music theory, burp… haha I stopped at 12, my parents were sad but few months later I self-taught guitar & piano… And few years later Ableton… ”

And yes, it certainly reflects the prodigious work of yours!

— Which artist inspires you the most and why?

He replied- “For KARL, I was really inspire by Milky Chance, Lost Frequencies, Fakear, Petit Biscuit… But in everyday life, I'm a big fan of background music from video games. I don't spend a day without listening to "Jérémy Soule" who composed for Morrowind & Skyrim... ”

So our last question was,

— Any final words for our reader and people listening to your music?

He replied- “Know that I do not compose for me but for you. So my first concern is to be sure that my music appeals to an audience and above all makes people happy”
